1. Abundance, characteristics, and ecological risks of microplastics in the riverbed sediments around Dhaka City.
doi:10.1016/j.scitotenv.2023.162866
In the study, twenty-eight sediment samples were collected from the selected rivers to study microplastic pollution in riverbed sediments in the peripheral rivers of the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The goal of this this investigation is to provide baseline study about microplastic pollution in riverine freshwater ecosystems so that we can understand the threat and take mitigations likewise. We followed modified National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) laboratory analysis method that includes density separation and wet-peroxidation methods to extract MP particles. To determine the polymers, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used. The abundance of MPs is found in medium-level in riverbed sediment in contrast to findings of other worldwide studies in freshwater sediments. Film shape, white and transparent color, and large-size (1–5 mm) MPs were found the most. The counts of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were the highest. Pollution load index (PLI) values greater than 1 were found stating severe pollution of MPs in all sampling sites. Ecological risk of MP pollution of rivers resulted in medium to very high. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis suggested further ecological risk in these river ecosystems due to weathering actions that minimized the size of MPs

2. Microplastics in River Sediments Around the Dhaka City: A Case Study for Occurrence and Quantification.

3. Microplastics (MPs) in water column of the peripheral rivers and lake of Dhaka City
It is my undergraduate thesis. We collected water column samples , exposed to various point and non-point sources of contaminants into the rivers and lake of Bangladesh and analyzed using modified NOAA laboratory analysis methods to get different characteristics of MPs like mass concentration, abundance, shape, size, colour, FTIR results and pollution load index so that initiatives can be taken to control the pollution
